About Aaron French

Aaron French started talking photography seriously after a field study course in Costa Rica. As part of his undergraduate Biology degree from University of California, San Diego he took a tropical Biology field course in 1992. He returned from the tropics exhilarated by what he saw, but when he developed his pictures there was not a single one that captured the beauty he saw and the wonder he felt in the Costa Rican forest. He immediately enrolled in a photography course during his last semester at the university, and has been actively pursuing photography every since.

Aaron spent much of the next ten years working as a biologist, living in some of the most beautiful and exotic places in the world. His work gave him access to worlds most people have little or no access to, from the hidden valleys of Hawaii to the hunter-gatherer Baka pygmies and the rare forest animals in Cameroon. His photography is a portal, albeit a limited one, into the splendor of those worlds.

Aaron has had his photography selected for publication by a wide range of print and online media.

He works as a chef in the East Bay, California and is currently photographing local farmers and chefs throughout the Bay Area for his upcoming cookbook.
